Football in Pakistan
In cricket-oriented Pakistan, followers of football have increased by a large number mostly after the Brazil World Cup 2014. But, the quality of football played in the country is not up to the mark with international standards. For the last five years, no improvement has been seen in the quality of the game which raises doubts whether the board is also subjected to corruption. The Pakistan Football Federation received Rs13 crore last year but no progress has been made.
There is no lack of talent in the country. Several players Kaleemullah, Hassan Bashir and Muhammad Adil are in major leagues across the globe Pakistan sits at the low ranking of 197. A protest was held this month by former and current national players led by Muhammad Essa in a bid to save the sinking ship of football in the country. This has given a glimmer of hope for the game of football in Pakistan.
