Rawalpindi
The stalls selling used winter clothing items including sweaters, jackets and mufflers are receiving a large number of customers as the weather conditions especially in the evening time are fast changing with each passing day.
Unlike the general impression that poor people buy second hands clothes, a large section of middle income groups are visiting the 'landa bazaars' and buying used clothes.
“Brands always make a person cool and 'landa bazaars' provide an ample opportunity to all those who can’t buy expensive branded clothes,” said Naseem Ghani, a stallholder near Rawalpindi Railway Station.
Young executives and professionals on their way up can be seen choosing used clothing suits, jackets, branded shirts and trousers from push carts in lunch breaks and after office hours.
He said some people buy used clothes even if they can afford new ones so they select the cleanest and neatest pieces of the branded clothes and give some extra money for them.
When asked why some people buy second-hand clothes if they can afford new ones he said “The quality of sweaters and jackets being sold in 'landa bazaars' will remain the same even if these are washed ten times.”
