The recent insurgency in Quetta has raised questions over the provincial government’s efficiency of coping militants. The way terrorists swarmed the police training college indicates the government’s failure.
Since the launch of Operation Zarb-e-Azab, terrorists are finding refuge in other parts of the country, especially Balochistan. Earlier, lawyers were targeted in the month of August. This makes it obvious that terrorists are gaining strength in the province which is a serious concern. The provincial authorities must enhance security measures to evade any untoward situation in the future and take tangible action against perpetrators.

It is a misconception that after the Zarb-e-Azb operation there will be no terrorist attacks. In reality, this operation has uprooted terrorists’ bases in Pakistan and minimised terrorist activities but the terrorists have fled to Afghanistan and are still a threat. We should expect attacks for a long time and be vigilant. Those behind the terrorist attacks are following the standard psychological war concept of shattering the confidence of the nation in its political leadership, government, security forces, and plunging the nation into a blame game, so that the people of the country are not united to fight back.
We are in a state of war and are facing threats from the eastern border. Our political leadership does not seem to realise the gravity of the situation and is carrying on with normal politics of political mudslinging even on the occasions like Quetta tragedy.
