The SIM story

During my stay at Medina, I wanted a SIM for my mobile telephone. When I approached the office of a local mobile company I was asked to produce my passport. Only when my passport number along with other relevant entries were incorporated in the record did I receive a SIM card. More or less, the same procedure is followed in India.
Contrary to this, no less than eleven meetings have taken place in Karachi on the law and order situation which were chaired by the prime minister but each time a handout was issued which, inter alia, stated that unverified SIMs – a major source of crime in our country – will be proscribed. However, till today this has not happened.
