Fight or perish

This refers to the article ‘Fight or perish’ (December 29) by Amir Zia. There is no denying the fact that our leadership – political and religious – is now on the same page as the army vis-à-vis extremism and terrorism. Their consensus to set up military courts is appreciable, but we have yet to see any concrete step in this direction. The writer has, however, failed to take into account discontent being aired by some political parties on military courts. It is strange that no sooner had the idea of military courts came up than the PPP and the JUI-F started saying that their support is conditional.
Moreover, our religious leaders are opposed to any change in the syllabi of madressahs. Today, nation stands united but our political forces are not. Who will make them understand that Pakistan is at war and we are under attack from terrorists? The special circumstances demand that we should stop opposing military courts or perish as suggested by the writer.
