LAHORE
A meeting of the Punjab Board Committee of Chairmen (PBCC) was held at Board of Intermediate & Secondary Education (BISE) on Monday.
PBCC Chairman Ch Muhammad Ismail, who is also chairman of BISE Lahore, chaired the meeting while chairmen of boards including BISE Rawalpindi, Gujranwala, Bahawalpur, DG Khan, Faisalabad, Multan, Sahiwal and Sargodha attended the meeting.
The meeting was informed that all the BISEs started rechecking of scripts as per the approved policy. The PBCC chairman asked the boards’ heads to expedite the process of rechecking.
Candidates of Intermediate Part-I Annual Examinations 2016 protested in different parts of the province, particularly in Lahore against what they said unfair marking of their papers. Following the protests, the BISE Lahore and other boards offered free of charge rechecking of their scripts.
According to Lahore board’s spokesperson Qaiser Virk, the scripts were being rechecked as per law and policy of the board. He said the Board could not award marks to students as per their desire.
Parents argue that the government should intervene to protect future of the students. One such parent, Hassan Bukhari, said the rulers could introduce laws such as NRO for their own interests but why they could not amend laws to address genuine concerns of students. He suggested that the BISE Lahore and other boards, where students complained about unfair marking, should award grace marks to the candidates to protect their future.
