‘Sialkot airport to have another runway’

SIALKOT: Sialkot International Airport Chairman Malik Muhammad Ashraf has said that hundreds of the passengers, who use the airport to travel abroad, have been facing several problems due to absence of streetlights on Airport Road.
Talking to newsmen at the Sialkot Chamber of Commerce and Industry (SCCI) here on Tuesday, he said that due to the absence of streetlights on 3km road, connecting Sambrial and Sialkot to the airport, travelling on the road for the passengers had become risky in the night. He claimed that reports of robberies with the passengers on the road had become common. He urged the government to take immediate steps to install streetlights on the road. He said that another runway would soon be constructed at the airport. He further added that the proposed runway would require 200 acres and the feasibility report in this regard was under process. He said that the basic aim of constructing another runway was to provide the planes with sufficient space to taxiing and to ensure landing of all types of planes at the airport. He demanded widening of seasonal nullahs flowing near the airport to secure the airport from destruction caused by seasonal floods. He said that construction of a four to five star hotel and an exhibition hall at the airport was under consideration to provide modern accommodation facilities to the foreigners and to hold international and domestic trade exhibitions.
