Business community welcomes Iran to be a part of CPEC

FAISALABAD: The business community of Faisalabad has welcomed Iran to join the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC).
In a statement issued here on Tuesday, Faisalabad Industrial Estate Development and Management Company (FIEDMC) and Pakistan Chambers of Commerce & Industry (FPCCI) chairman Mian Muhammad Idrees said that the business community would welcome Iran to be a part of the CPEC. He said that the CPEC would strengthen the trade and economic assistance in the whole region, adding that the participation of Iran in this mega project would be beneficial for China, Pakistan and Iran as it would open a vista of progress and prosperity in the region. The project would strengthen mega structures in the region. He reiterated that other countries were also realising the importance of this mega project and showing their willingness to connect with the rest of the region. He said that the CPEC would provide ample job opportunities to thousands of Pakistanis and boost the economy of the country. He said that the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) was a mega project between the two countries under which China would invest $46 billion in Pakistan. The economic corridor was about 3,000km long consisting of dry ports, highways, railways and pipelines that would connect Pakistan’s Gawadar Port to China’s Xinjiang province.
BIKER KILLED IN ACCIDENT: A motorcyclist was killed while his brother sustained injuries in an accident on Samundri Road on Tuesday.Muhammad Arslan of Khanoana and his brother Muhammad Rizwan were on their way to Faisalabad when another motorcyclist hit their bike and both brothers fell on the road. In the meantime, a car coming from behind hit them. As a result, Arslan was killed instantly while Rizwan received injuries and shifted to the Civil Hospital.
PO wanted in SSP Office firing case held

FAISALABAD: Civil Lines police have arrested a proclaimed offender in a case of firing in the SSP (Investigation) Office here. The police, on a tip-off, raided and arrested accused Shahbaz Ahmad. He had allegedly opened indiscriminate fire in the office of the SSP, causing the death of Saqib Ahmad in 2014.After registration of a murder case, the police had arrested the accused in 2014 and produced him in the court of the ATC special judge but he escaped from there.
NAIB TEHSILDAR HELD: The Anti-Corruption Establishment arrested a naib tehsildar in a case of fraudulently transferring a land. The ACE team led by its circle officer Tanvir Amjad raided the Tandlianwala Tehsil Courts and arrested accused Naib Tehsildar Abdul Karim Bhatti. He had allegedly transferred a land under a bogus transfer letter in 2014.
CONVICTED: Additional Sessions Judge Rana Shaukat Ali awarded death sentence and Rs 200,000 fine to Kalamuddin of Laki Marwat in a murder case. According to the prosecution, the convict had murdered his colleague labourer over a minor issue in Millat Town police limits.
Workshop on hybrid course design begins in UAF

FAISALABAD: The US-Pakistan Centre of Advanced Studies in Agriculture and Food Security, the University of Agriculture Faisalabad, on Tuesday kicked off a four-day workshop on hybrid course design and development meant for equipping the teaching staff with modern teaching skills.
Chairing the inaugural session, USPCAS Chief of Party Dr Bashir Ahmad said that all-out efforts were being made to further build up the capacity of agrarians and ensure the food security.
Prof James R Carey from the University of California, the USA, said that the teaching methods with technological support had become essential to gain the interest of the students. Prof Thomas L Rost from the University of California, the USA, said that aims for the workshop were to increase knowledge of the participants in learning management system, presentation concepts and video production methods. Dr Nancy from the University of California, the USA, and Dr Ghulam Murtaza also spoke on the occasion.
FCCI chief for uniform taxation system

FAISALABAD: Complete harmony between government, bureaucracy and public is imperative to achieve the objectives of progress, prosperity and stability of Pakistan, said Faisalabad Chamber of Commerce and Industry (FCCI) president Muhammad Saeed Sheikh President.
He was addressing a delegation of the 20th senior management course of the National Management College (NMC), Lahore, which visited the FCCI here on Tuesday. He said that the government in collaboration with the business community was making efforts to stabilise the national economy. Despite the positive macroeconomic indicators, the fruits of progress and prosperity had not been trickled down to the lowest strata, he added. He said that the taxation system was neither simple, nor uniform. Some sectors were exempted from the tax while others were heavily taxed, he added. The FCCI chief demanded uniform taxation system in the country. During a meeting in the FCCI, the FBR officials had assured that at least 100,000 new tax payers would be added to the tax net, but the promise had still not been fulfilled.
Saeed Sheikh said that the government preferred consultation with the business community on business related issues and as a result of it, five exports sectors were declared zero-rated. He said that the FCCI had taken a bold step to send trade delegations to the potential markets of other countries. He said that two delegations had recently visited Sweden and Germany while four others were in the pipeline. To a question, the FCCI chief said that the FCCI had 5,000 members within its fold. They belonged to all sectors and the FCCI was making continuous efforts to resolves their day-to-day issues, he added.
FCCI senior vice-president Rana Sikandar Azam, vice-president Ahmad Hassan and others also spoke on the occasion.
