10 food sale points sealed for selling substandard items

BAHAWALPUR: DCO Dr Ehtisham Anwar has said that the District Food Committee conducted 450 raids at different food sale points and sealed 10 of them for selling substandard food items during the last 18 days.

Addressing a press conference at his office on Tuesday, the DCO said that the District Food Committee also imposed Rs 600,000 fine on them. The DCO lauded the efforts of the raiding team for unearthing a cooking oil factory, which was playing with the lives of the consumers by manufacturing highly unhygienic and substandard cooking oil. Giving details, DDO Health Dr Zeeshan Rauf told that the District Food Committee conducted a raid at a cooking oil manufacturing factory at Melay Wali Gali and found that the factory was involved in preparing cooking oil by using fats of various animals and hens. The raids conducting team confiscated 500 litres unhygienic cooking oil, which was later destroyed, he informed. The factory was sealed while accused Muhammad Amir and Jamil Ahmad were arrested and later booked by Baghdad police, he told. Additional District Collector & District Food Committee Director Nosheen Malik, AC City Rao Tasleem Akhtar, journalists and other officers and officials of the concerned departments were also present. Later, AC City Rao Tasleem Akhtar told media that four bags filled with fats of animals and other cooking oil manufacturing material had been taken into custody. DDO Health Dr Zeeshan Rauf and Additional District Collector Nosheen Malik said that the members of the District Food Committee had conducted a raid at a pickle factory at Ahmadpur East and got registered a case against eight accused.

JUVENILE JAIL VISITED: Prisons Department Multan Region DIG Muhammad Shaukat Feroz on Tuesday visited the Borstle Institute and Juvenile Jail Bahawalpur.

During his visit, DIG Muhammad Shaukat Feroz inspected kitchen, dining hall, hospital and juvenile barracks at the jail. He also inspected ongoing development works at the Borstle Institute and Juvenile Jail Bahawalpur.

CONDOLENCE MEETING: A condolence meeting was held for the departed soul of father of stenographer of Information Office Muzammil Hussain at Divisional Information Office here.

Information Regional Director Rana Ejaz Mahmood, Public Relations Deputy Director Nasir Hameed and others attended the meeting and offered Fateha for the departed soul.

 

PM’s visit to RY Khan cancelled

BAHAWALPUR: The PM’s visit to Rahimyar Khan scheduled for Wednesday has been cancelled. According to the district administration, the prime minister had to inaugurate the health insurance cards scheme for the poor at the Sheikh Zayed Hospital in Rahimyar Khan.

 

Bus accident: CM’s inquiry team records

BAHAWALPUR: A three-member inquiry committee constituted by the chief minister visited the site of Monday’s accident, which claimed the lives of 29 people.

The committee comprising Rescue-1122 Director General Dr Rizwan Naseer, Punjab Chief Transport Controller Tariq Chaudhry and the traffic additional IG recorded statements of the witnesses.

The inquiry team also met the people injured in the accident, besides gathering evidences. The team will submit its report to the chief minister. Rahimyar Khan DCO Zafar Iqbal, DPO Zeeshan Asghar and Khanpur Assistant Commissioner Ahmad Raza were also present on the occasion.
