ISLAMABAD: Chief of the Army Staff (COAS) General Raheel Sharif on Monday apprised Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif of the decisions taken recently and the concern expressed by the corps commanders, high-level sources said.

The corps commanders’ meeting lately had expressed serious concerns over the breach of national security by feeding of false and fabricated material about a high-level huddle held at the PM House on national security.

The prime minister said that the inquiry into the matter had been started and it will be completed in a few days. The PM House issued a 21-word release about the meeting between Nawaz Sharif and General Raheel Sharif.

The release pertaining to the meeting between the prime minister and the army chief stated that “COAS General Raheel Sharif called on the prime minister. Matters pertaining to national and regional security were discussed during the meeting. The one-on-one meeting between the prime minister and the COAS at the PM House continued for about one hundred minutes.”

The prime minister had returned a day earlier from his successful visit of Azerbaijan where the two countries agreed where the two countries agreed to undertake joint military exercises with inclusion of Turkey’s Armed Forces. It is understood that the premier has taken the Army Chief into confidence about his discussions with the leaders of Azerbaijan with special reference to the military cooperation. The countries had also dropped the hint to join hands in the sphere of joint military production.

It is believed that Indian belligerency with an exposed aggressive posture and Pakistan’s war against the terror were discussed threadbare since India has been sponsoring terror activities in Pakistan.
