DERA GHAZI KHAN: Hundreds of intermediate Part-I students staged a demonstration against the Board of Intermediate and Secondary Education, Dera Ghazi Khan, and demanded remarking of their papers here on Monday.
The protesting students also blocked Dera Ghazi Khan-Multan National Highway at Mustafa Chowk near the BISE office to press their demand. They chanted slogans against the BISE officers. MNA Jamshed Ahmad Khan Dasti also joined the protest to express solidarity with the students. The traffic remained blocked for couple of hours while a heavy contingent of police also rushed to the spot.
The students alleged that there were several irregularities in marking of the papers and they were facing its consequences while the examiners had not been penalised for their alleged ineptness.
During the demonstration, MNA Jamshed Dasti said that the BISE high-ups were not serious in taking up the issue. He said that he would file a case in the high court if the valid demands of the candidates were not met.
Later, PTI MPA Sardar Ahmad Ali Khan Dareshak also joined the protest and demanded that remarking of the papers should be conducted free of cost with no additional charges from the students. Later, the students dispersed peacefully.
When contacted, BISE Chairman Dr Muhammad Shafiq said that all the educational institutions had been directed to submit applications of their candidates for rechecking till October 22.
