MULTAN: The Multan Chamber of Commerce and Industry (MCCI) on Thursday slammed the increase in gas tariff by the Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority (OGRA).
Talking to reporters, MCCI president Khawaja Jalaluddin Roomi said the rise in gas prices would affect exports and it would jack up the cost of doing business manifold and make more difficult for Pakistani products to compete in the international market.
He said the incumbent government always vowed to take private sector on board but the public sector departments did not consult the MCCI or any other sector-specific association.
He urged upon the government to make the business viable so that exporters could meet the Indian, Bangladeshi, Taiwanese, Malaysian competitors in world market.He said Pakistan would lose markets if it failed to supply products on competitive rates.He urged the government to reject the decision of the OGRA.
