KARACHI/LAHORE: Former president and Co-chairman Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) Asif Ali Zardari has stopped the party leaders from reacting to the press release of the Inter-Services Public Relations issued after the corps commanders meeting earlier this week. Zardari’s directive came in a statement issued by his political secretary Rukhsana Bangash on late Friday evening. The statement said the PPP leader had taken notice of the statements issued by different party leaders in reaction to the ISPR’s press release and strictly directed them to avoid reacting to such statements. The statement said the utterances made by the party leaders against the ISPR press release didn’t reflect the PPP’s policy on the issue. It said the Central Executive Committee (CEC) of the PPP would be the ultimate forum to decide whether to support the government or not on the issue. Meanwhile, PML-Q President Chaudhry Shujaat Hussain on Friday said the corps commanders meeting had rightly pointed out the need for good governance.“The army is playing its role as per the National Action Plan (NAP) while the civil government has failed to fulfill its responsibility,” he said while talking to the media. Ch Shujaat said bad governance at the national level was dangerous for the nation.Replying to a question, he said good governance should be the top-most priority, as it also helped create a better civil-military relationship that strengthened the country. He warned that some vested interests were trying to divide the nation on a national issue. Meanwhile, addressing a news conference in the vicinity of Sialkot, Ch Shujaat said deficit in the execution of the NAP was an issue of governance as correctly pointed out during a recent meeting of the corps commanders chaired by the chief of the army staff. He emphasised that governance was a national priority and not of any personality or party, says a press release.
