ISLAMABAD: The Senate on Monday witnessed an interesting situation, when at the time of taking up of a resolution, seeking extension of usual VIP facilities to all ex-MPs, including gratis/ blue passports to their spouses and children, none of those, who had signed it, was present in the House.
The Senate Chairman, Mian Raza Rabbani, announced while taking up the last item (No. 13) on the orders of the day that he had received applications from Salim Mandviwala of PPP, Mohsin Aziz of PTI and independent Senator Mohsin Leghari seeking withdrawal of their names from the resolution.
The resolution says: This House recommends that the government may extend usual facilities of VIPs to all ex-members of Majlis-e-Shoora (Parliament) of Pakistan, including the gratis blue passports to their spouses and children.
Almost all those, who had signed the resolution, have been often talking against the VIP culture and according selective treatment to public on the basis of their status.
After this announcement, Rabbani mentioned names of remaining senators: Usman Kakar of PkMAP, PPP’s Fetah Muhammad Hasani, Naseema Ehsan of BNP-Awami, Kamil Ali Agha of PML-Q, Mufti Abdul Sattar of JUI-F and Saifullah Bangash of PPP, but all were absent. Hence, the resolution was dropped.
