How to fight terrorism

This refers to the news report, ‘Strategy prepared to tackle jihadi organisations’, (Oct 7). Disarming terrorist organisation, stopping their funding and getting militants involved in mainstream politics are good recommendations made by the government and the committee headed by retired generals.

The committee is powerful and can get good results. Other short-, medium- and long-term measures are also needed – including poverty alleviation, the generation of employment opportunities and just allocation of the country’s resources to each province. The civilian and military leadership should also seriously think about the consequences of these measures and how militants’ retaliation may affect the people of the country.
