PESHAWAR: The Benazir Income Support Program (BISP) has launched biometric verification system (BVS) in Battagram to make the initiative transparent and more efficient.

Minister of State and Chairperson BISP Marvi Memon launched the BVS in a function held in Battagram. A press release issued here Saturday stated that the minister said that BVS would make an end to the middle man culture and ensure transparency in the programme.

Previously payments in Battagram were made through mobile phone banking system. Under the new system a beneficiary would have to present his CNIC only at the point of sale or franchisee of the partner bank and affix thumb impression for the withdrawal of the amount, the release added.

A system generated receipt would also be given to the beneficiary carrying the details about payments and balance.

Marvi Memon said that BVS was a very simple and user-friendly payment mode compared to other modes of payment. “It makes the presence of the beneficiary mandatory to receive the stipend and empower them in a true sense,” she added.

She said the beneficiaries would receive messages from banks containing information about the arrival/withdrawals of stipends from the accounts.
