The residents of Hayatabad, the so-called posh township of Peshawar, are facing a number of issues these days including water supply, cleanliness, insecurity etc. The recent installation of new electric meters – donated by USAID – has added to the miseries of residents of the area. These meters have doubled the bill of the consumers.
Domestic consumers have been forced to pay bills at commercial rates. A lot of residents have complained about the erroneous bill of Rs50,000 charged to them for the month of August, 2016. The question is: who has approved the installation of such meters? It is not possible for the common man to pay inflated bills. The supply of clean drinking water is another problem for residents. They are forced to call water tankers which charge them between Rs500 and Rs1000 per tanker. The people of the area are demanding that the Water & Sanitation Services Peshawar (WSSP) and the Peshawar Development Authority (PDA) take back the control of water supply. Since the hiring of the independent partner (IP) or contractor, the supply has been disrupted. Chief Minister Pervez Khattak and Imran Khan should visit the area and listen to the genuine problems of the people who have voted for them.
