LAHORE
The Lahore High Court chief justice on Thursday issued notices to federal government, Election Commission of Pakistan and National Assembly Speaker on a petition challenging the Speaker’s decision of dismissing a reference seeking disqualification of the prime minister.
A member of former chief justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry’s Pakistan Justice and Democratic Party has filed the petition.
Advocate Ashiq Hussain argued that the decision of the Speaker was in violation of the Constitution and judgments of the apex court. He said the Speaker dismissed the reference without citing any cogent reasons which he had to write down.
