Section 144 imposed in Hangu, Bannu

HANGU: The district administrations of Hangu and Bannu districts have imposed Section 144 in order to maintain peace during sensitive month of Muharramul Haram.

The district administration on Thursday imposed Section 144 to maintain peace during Muharram.The decision was taken during a jirga convened to review the security arrangements for forthcoming Muharram.

Representatives of Sunni and Shia sects, religious scholars, traders and officials of law enforcers attended the jirga.The district administration had convened the jirga. Deputy Commissioner Ihsanullah Khan presided over the sitting. The jirga reviewed the security arrangements for Muharram.

Ihsanullah Khan said that personnel of security forces, police, Frontier Constabulary and Frontier Corps would be deployed in the district to maintain peace during Muharram.The official said the entire district would be sealed off while checkpoints would be set up at the entry and exit points to the district. He urged the religious scholars and representatives of the two sects to promote interfaith harmony and provide full support to the administration to ensure peaceful observance of Muharram.

Our correspondent in bannu adds: District administration on Thursday announced to impose Section 144 of the law as a security measure on the occasion of Muharram. A notification issued here by the Deputy Commissioner Mian Adil Iqbal stated that strict action would be taken against the violators of the law during Muhrramul Haram.

Under Section 144, the district administration has restricted the public from climbing the high buildings near Imambargahs, assembly of more than five citizens at one place, renting out hotel rooms to strangers and people without national identity cards.
