Police urged to launch website

for snatched/recovered vehicles

From Our Correspondent

GUJRANWALA: Police have so far failed to introduce an online system to maintain the record of recovered/snatched vehicles.

Talking to The News here, the people said that police should launch a website and place details of snatched/recovered vehicles on it. They said that the step would help the owners to immediately contact the police in case of recovery of cars. They said that a large number of recovered vehicles, including cars, were rusting away in different police stations due to the alleged negligence of the police. According to rules, particulars of all the impounded or abandoned vehicles are noted down on a register by a police officer in the Police Lines. Once that has been done, no one can take away such vehicles without a court order, but the rules are being allegedly flouted by the police officials to have a ride of these vehicles, the people added. They said that it was the responsibility of the police to hand over the vehicles to their owners with the help of the Excise and Taxation Department.

When contacted, police PRO Gulrez Khan said that computerisation of data was under way and the task would be done in the next some months. After completion of computerisation of data, all information about police force, its achievements, recoveries, tasks and stolen/recovered vehicles would be available online.
