World Tourism Day observed

Tourism Development Corporation of Punjab (TDCP) is making efforts to facilitate the special persons, senior citizens and children at their tourist destinations, said tourism minister at Alhamra, on the occasion of World Tourism Day, which is held every year on September 27 all over the world. 

The theme of the day given by UNWTO every year and this year theme is “Tourism for All - Promoting Universal Accessibility”.

The minister added that everyone has right to access leisure and tourism services. “Yet 1 billion people around the world living with disability, along with young children, senior persons with other access requirements, still face obstacles in accessing fundamentals of travel such as clear and reliable information, efficient transportation and public services, and a physical environment that is easy to navigate, he said. Even with modern technologies, those with visual, hearing, mobility or cognitive impairments are being left behind in many tourism destinations, he added. 

Earlier, a special city tour arranged for special persons of different organisations on TDCP double-decker buses. TDCP vice chairman Imran Ali, Nayyar Iqbal (secretary tourism), Ahmar Mallick (MD-TDCP), DG Walled City, Sohail Warraich and other expressed their views on World Tourism Day. Aftab Rana gave presentation of Blind Indus Dolphins. 

Tourism secretary Nayyar Iqbal announced a tourism award for the stakeholders. A large number of people and stakeholders celebrated the day with TDCP.
