ISLAMABAD: To show strength at the zonal level on the eve of Muharram-ul-Haram, the Islamabad Police force, along with contingents of Pakistan Rangers, conducted a flag march, a police spokesman said.
The flag march started from the Police Line Headquarters and culminated at the Rescue 15 office after passing through the Kashmir Highway, Sangjani, Chungi No26, Kashmir Highway, Sector G-13, Golra Railway Station, Margalla Road, Sector F-10 Markaz, G-11 Markaz, G-10 Markaz, Karachi Company , Peshawar Morr and Sector G-8.
The SSP (Islamabad) Sajid Kiani said that the Islamabad Police had ensured detailed security arrangements for the Muharram-ul-Haram. He said the police would accomplish responsibility in an efficient manner to ensure protection to lives and property of citizens. He also directed to launch an effective search operation within their jurisdictions including slum areas where most of the inhabitants are Afghans.
He said the Islamabad Police have made full preparations for high alert security on the eve of Muharram-ul-Haram and duty rosters have been compiled. He said operational policemen have been assigned duties and a special control room has been established to ensure effective coordination among all the wings of Islamabad Police and assisting security agencies.
The SSP Islamabad said that the purpose of this flag march was to show preparedness of the police and other law enforcement agencies during the Muharram-ul-Haram in order to counter any challenge and maintain peace in the city. He also directed all the SDPOs and SHOs to make effective security arrangements in their respective areas. Kiani said the Islamabad Police would maintain a close liaison with peace committees and organisers of the Muharram majalis and processions.
Meanwhile, as many as 447 personnel of the Islamabad Traffic Police (ITP) would perform duties during the days of Muharramul Haram to regulate traffic in the presence of religious gatherings and processions in the city.
The ITP prepared a comprehensive traffic plan for Muharram in a meeting chaired by Senior Superintendent of Police Matloob Ahmed, also attended by SP Khalid Rashid, DSPs of all the four zones and other officials.
The ITP personnel would manage alternate routes for traffic during the 82 Muharram processions at various points of the city to be taken out during Muharram 6 to 11. The ITP would guide the citizens about the alternative roads during the processions.
Likewise, the ITP personnel would also be deployed at religious gathering places to facilitate the public while the ITP FM 92.4 would also run its transmission to guide motorists.The SSP Islamabad Traffic Police has appealed to motorists to cooperate and use alternative roads during the Muharram processions. He also appealed to citizens to park their vehicles at parking areas and keep eyes on suspected vehicles and persons to avoid any untoward incident.
