UNGA images
Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif’s address to the UN General Assembly was arguably one of his most impassioned and well-articulated speeches at an international forum. As Pakistanis watching the sessions unfold in NY, one particular image from the UNGA session overshadowed all the positivity surrounding Nawaz Sharif’s speech.
Aired worldwide via UN webtv and circulated on social media, PM Sharif is seen sitting with wife Kalsoom Nawaz during his address to the UNSC as Ambassador and Permanent Representative to the UN Maleeha Lodhi looks on. Ambassador Lodhi is flanked but by the granddaughter of the prime minister. This image was not in good taste. I hope sense prevails and diplomats who have been working behind the scenes are given the projection they deserve instead of the next of kin of the powers that be.
