Registration for Rs 80b interest-free loans begins

MULTAN: The Punjab government has started registration process to issue Rs 80 billion interest-free loans to 450,000 small farmers under the Punjab Chief Minister’s Kissan Package.
Talking to reporters on Friday, Punjab Assistant Director Information Agriculture Naveed Asmat Kahloon said farmers would also be given smart phones to improve agriculture sector.
He said for Rabi crops, Rs 25,000 will be given against per acre while the loan amount is enhanced upto Rs 40,000 for Kharif crops.
He said the loan facility would bring revolution in the agriculture sector.
Tehsil Land Record office would remain open from 4pm to 8pm daily.
Farmers are required to visit the office along with their original CNIC, mobile phone number, and details of land record.
Kahloon said to develop agriculture sector and provide relief to farmers, the Punjab government has approved the loan scheme.
Soft-term, interest-free loans will be given to farmers of upto twelve and half acres of agricultural land, he said.
He said as agriculture is of paramount importance for national economy and a major portion of population is associated with it therefore, the government has announced a historic Kissan Package, he said.
He said special attention was underway to increase per acre yield, saying that keeping this thing in mind the proposal for establishing an agriculture stock exchange is also on the cards.
