Two years since a string of grenade attacks claimed multiple lives and injured scores in Lyari's Jhat Pat Market area, compensation cheques were distributed among families of 48 victims of the blast, as per a government statement issued on Thursday.
The cheques amounting to Rs 500,000 and Rs 100,000 were handed over to relatives of the dead and injured respectively by minister Muhammad Ali Malkani. Speaking on the occasion, the livestock minister apologised for the delay in providing the compensation cheques.
The minister pointed out that the delay was caused due to official procedures.
“My thoughts are with the bereaved family members who lost their loved ones in the incident.” Malkani said the PPP was always with the people of Lyari and the party would never forget and left them alone in any difficult time.
MPAs Sania Naaz, Javed Nagori and Malik Fayyaz also spoke on the occasion and sympathized with the relatives of victims and injured.
APP Chairman DMC South Malik Fayyaz, Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) leaders Haji Qasim Baloch, Khaliq Jan, Aslam Baloch, Iqbal Baloch, Naveed Bizijo along with Karachi Commissioner Aijaz Ali Khan, DC South Saleem Rajput were also present at the ceremony held at the commissioner office.
