Coming closer
By our correspondents
September 20, 2016
This refers to the news report, ‘Newly launched body vows to bring Pakistanis, Afghans closer’ (September 17) by S Bukhar Shah is not only timely but also in the interest of the people of both countries and for peace and progress in every field.
People-to-people contact is important as it removes misunderstandings. One hopes that robust measures are taken for its continuation and sustainability. The civilian and uniformed leaders have failed to bring the two countries together so far as neighbours, either because of internal vested interests or external pressures. The saboteurs will have to be guarded against if such people-to-people contact has to succeed.
