The IGP ordered his subordinates on Sunday to prepare a contingency plan for the upcoming month of Muharram.

A police spokesperson said IGP had directed the DIGs, SPs and the officers of the investigation department throughout the province to make foolproof security arrangements and maintain high vigilance during the holy month of Muharram to avert any untoward incident of the terrorism or public disorder.

The IGP stressed the need for ensuring elaborate security arrangements at mosques and seminaries especially at Majalis.

The directives included surveillance of procession routes and taking preventive actions. The police would identify suspects with the help of intelligence agencies and take prior action against them.

The police chief also ordered the formation of aman committees at the police station level. He also said the anti-riot force should remain ready so that it could be used when needed.

He ordered his subordinates to form control rooms for effective communication and also ensure stopping the distribution of hate literature and graffiti.

Besides, he said, a comprehensive traffic management plan should also be chalked out.
