ATTOCK: Jahangir Khanzada, son of martyred Punjab Home Minister Col (retd) Shuja Khanzada, on Tuesday won the PP-16 Attock II by-election by securing 44,286 votes as compared to 4,371 votes secured by his opponent independent candidate Dr Naeem Awan.
The polling in PP-16 completed peacefully where Jahangir Khanzada of PML-N and an independent candidate Dr Naeem Awan were contesting election.
In the PP-16 constituency, registered voters are 206,669 which included 114,027 male and 92,642 female voters. About 137 poling stations were established which included 54 male, 47 female and 36 combine polling stations.
AC Hazro Tariq Basra and Education Officer Chaudhry Khalid were performing the responsibilities of the assistant returning officers while about 989 personnel from different departments were deputed on various assignments.
It is worth mentioning that the seat fell vacant after the martyrdom of Punjab Home Minister Col Shuja Khanzada. In this constituency, all political parties decided not to nominate their candidate to give honour and pay tribute to Shaheed Shuja Khanzada.
Meanwhile, Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif has congratulated Jehangir Khanzada on his victory in by-elections.
In a felicitation message, the chief minister said the success of PML-N candidate Jehangir Khanzada in by-election reflects the full confidence of the people in the party policies. He said the people have paid homage to the sacrifice of the Attock Martyrs by ensuring the victory of the son of Col (retd) Shuja Khanzada. He said the people have once again proved that they greatly love the leadership of the PML-N.
