Child dies, six injured as swing collapses in Multan
CM takes notice, seeks report of incident

MULTAN: A child was killed and six others were injured when a swing broke down in Jinnah Park on the second day of Eid on Wednesday.
Children were enjoying the swing when it suddenly broke down. As a result, Ali Hassan was killed on the spot while Javed Hussain, Nawab Khan, Karamat, Aqil Kharral, Ahmed Ikram Kharral and Hammad were injured seriously. Rescue 1122 staffers rushed to the spot and shifted the injured children to the Nishtar Hospital.
Shah Rukn-e-Alam police have registered a case under Sections 324/337-HI and 34 CrPc against eight people, including park contractor Maj Anwar Shahzad (retd), supervisor Muhammad Akram, engineer Chaudhry Liaqat Ali, head operator Muhammad Husnain, helper Babar, engineer Muhammad Zohaib and PHA Director Finance Khurram Jamil. Police have arrested two of the accused. The complainant, AC City Muhammad Farooq, said that the accused person failed to adopt safety measures at the swings. Meanwhile, Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif took notice of the incident and directed the administration to submit a report to him. He also ordered the hospital administration to provide special treatment to the injured children.
On the other hand, District Coordination Officer Nadir Chattha held the Parks and Horticulture Authority responsible for the incident as they issued the fitness certificate of a swing. The PHA spokesman, in a statement expressed grief on the death of the child. The PHA spokesman said that stern action would be taken against the persons responsible for the incident.
Meanwhile, on behalf of the chief minister, former Punjab minister and MPA Ahsanuddin Qureshi visited the Nishtar Hospital and inquired after the children. He also presented bouquets to the injured children. DCO Nadir Chattha also visited the hospital and reviewed treatment facilities being provided to the injured.
