NEW YORK: The First Lady of the United States, Michelle Obama, has formally invited Maryam Nawaz Sharif for a one-on-one meeting in the White House on October 22, the day when Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif will be having a meeting with President Obama in the Oval Office.
The US first lady will have discussions with Maryam Nawaz about the world-wide children education programme for which they have already agreed to work. Michelle Obama informed Maryam Nawaz in August last that she would also work with her to promote education in Pakistan.
US President’s Special Representative Peter Lavoy came all the way from the US to deliver Michelle’s message to Maryam in Lahore in the presence of the outgoing US Ambassador Richard Olson.
Meanwhile, India, Afghanistan, investment and strengthening of bilateral ties between the US and Pakistan will be the broad agenda for discussions when Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif will visit the US capital on an official visit of the United States. It would be the second official visit of Nawaz Sharif in a year.
The two will be together on the following day of their last one-on-one meeting’s anniversary. The prime minister has decided to visit some other places in the United States before visiting Washington on October 22.
