SWABI: Two militants were killed in an encounter in the far-flung Bachai village in the jurisdiction of Kalu Khan Police Station here on Friday, a police official said.
He said that an accomplice of the militants and an assistant sub-inspector (ASI) were injured in the clash.District Police Officer (DPO) Javed Iqbal said that the cops were on routine patrolling when three militants lying in wait opened fire on them.
“Two militants were killed on the spot and another injured when the cops returned the fire,” he said, adding the injured militant managed to escape from the scene. The official said that ASI Fazal Subhan was also injured in the firing and was taken to a hospital in Peshawar. The DPO said that a search operation was launched in the area, but no arrest could be made.
Meanwhile, a man was killed and four passersby, including two women, were injured on the Link Road.The police said the motive behind the incident was an old enmity. The slain cop was identified as Bakht Zamin, who belonged to Yousafi village in the district. The accused was named as Umara Khan who hailed from Ghunda Kakara village in Charsadda district.
