MULTAN: The City District Government Multan has launched free transport service for the people from specified points to the sacrificial animal markets.
Inaugurating the free transport service here on Thursday, DCO Nadir Chattha said that the CDGM had set up six sacrificial animal markets in Multan, Shujabad and Jalalpur.
He said that the bus (LPT-8878) would pick up passengers from Chungi No-9 to Fatima Jinnah Housing Scheme via Chowk Khumanranwala, Samijabad, while the bus (PM-8896) would take the passengers from Chowk Dera Adda to Basti Kayianpur via Old Shujabad Road and the bus (LUC-8772) would take the passengers from Daulat Gate to Vehari Bypass via Chungi No-14. The DCO said that the bus (0553) would take the passengers from Faiz-i-Aam Nursery near Chungi No 9 to Northern Bypass via Nawabpur Road.
Meanwhile, sale of sacrificial animals has gained momentum in local markets despite their skyrocketing prices. A visit to the animal markets reveals that a reasonable small sacrificial animal could be purchased against Rs 20,000 to 25,000 while a big animal could be purchased in range from Rs 40,000 to Rs 70,000.
The CDGM officials said that they had imposed emergency in the district after rise in the number of Congo patients at the Nishtar Hospital. They said that they alerted the health, livestock and other departments to meet emergency regarding Congo virus. They said that Section 144 had been imposed, banning the sale of animals’ skins in urban areas to prevent spread of Congo virus.
