Tevta students to take spoken English classes
LAHORE
Spoken English classes will be mandatory for all students enrolled in Tevta institutes across Punjab.
British Council will provide master trainers to train Tevta teachers as well as students.
This decision was taken in a meeting between Tevta Chairperson Irfan Qaiser Sheikh and British Council head in Punjab Kevin Mclaven at Tevta Secretariat here on Wednesday.
Irfan Qaiser Sheikh said one third duration of every course would be reserved for spoken English. He said a special curriculum was being designed with the mutual collaboration of British Council for this and it would be implemented from the next month.
He said, “Collaboration of Tevta with British Council will improve the English proficiency of the skilled manpower who aspire to seek better employment opportunities in the national and international market.”
The Tevta chairperson said that Tevta, according to the vision of the Punjab chief minister, was offering demand-driven technical and vocational courses to the youth of the province. He said these skilled based training courses were helping the youth in getting dignified job opportunities, thereby, reducing unemployment and poverty in the country. He said the skills in which the students were trained were not only highly demanded in the local market but also in the international market particularly in the Middle East.
He said the efforts of British Council were commendable for the promotion of English language in the province.The Tevta chairperson said that English was an international language and it was essential for the skilled youth to be fluent in spoken English.
