Waseem encouraged by Army Chief
KARACHI: World Boxing Council (WBC) silver flyweight champion Mohammad Waseem on Tuesday met Chief of Army Staff General Raheel Sharif at the military headquarters in Rawalpindi.
Waseem told ‘The News’ on Wednesday that he was thankful to Raheel for meeting him.
He said that he got a lot of encouragement from the military head.
Waseem became the first Pakistani professional boxer to win the world silver flyweight title when he beat Jether Oliva of the Philippines in Seoul on July 17.
He will defend his title when he meets Giemel Magramo of the Philippines at Hilton Hotel in Seoul on November 27.
The 29-year-old is expected to leave for Las Vegas later this month to begin preparation for the fight against Magramo.
Magramo won the vacant WBC International Flyweight Championship on December 12, 2015, by beating Jeny Boy Boca, also of the Philippines. Waseem has played only four pro bouts in his short career which started early last year.
