DCO chairs agricultural advisory body meeting

BAHAWALPUR: District Coordination Officer Dr Ehtisham Anwer Mahaar chaired a meeting of district agricultural advisory committee held at his committee room on Thursday.
The meeting was told that farmers in Bahawalpur district have cultivated cotton on 594,000 acres, sugarcane on 75,000 acres and rice on 36,000 acres and the yields of the crops would bring economic prosperity for locals.
Additional District Collector Mrs Imrana Ajmal, EDO Agriculture Chaudhry Tanveer Ahmad, President Pakistan crops protection association Chaudhry Muhammad Ali, representatives of banks, officials of agriculture department and other officers concerned and officials of the relevant departments attended the meeting.
The meeting was further told that tunnel farming facility was also being provided to farmers.
The DCO directed the officials of agriculture department to establish model farmer centres which should have modern agricultural equipment in five tehsils of the district Bahawalpur to promote public awareness about mechanized agriculture in the district.
He urged the officials to launch a comprehensive public awareness campaign for farmers distributing public awareness pamphlets.
He also called for comprehensive precautionary measures to devise state-of-the-art crops damage control system by using satellite imaging system.
VIDEO LINK LECTURES OF AIOU: Allama Iqbal Open University (AIOU) regional director Khawaja Sabir Hussain Thursday said the varsity would start BSc classes and all lectures to the students would be delivered through video link from the computer science department established at the main campus of the varsity.
He said for better coordination with students, coordinators have also been appointed at Chishtian, Hasilpur, Bahawalnagar and Ahmadpur East.
