Punjab upset Army as National Women Volleyball begins
KARACHI: Punjab inflicted an upset defeat on Army, while Sindh and holders WAPDA also won their matches on the opening day of the 12th National Women Volleyball Championship which began here at the KPT Sports Complex on Thursday.
Punjab, who won both their outings, did a fine job to defeat Army 2-1 with the set scores of 17-25, 25-23, 25-11.
Earlier, Punjab prevailed over Balochistan 2-0 with set scores of 25-10, 25-5.
Sindh had to face some trouble before they edged Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) 25-22, 25-23. AJK, earlier, defeated Khyber Pakhtunkhwa 25-13, 25-27. Higher Education Commission (HEC) also showed fine skills when they overcame Balochistan 25-5, 25-10. Defending champions WAPDA overwhelmed Khyber Pakhtunkhwa 25-7, 25-2.
Chairman Karachi Port Trust (KPT) Admiral Shafqat Javed opened the eight-team competitions. Sindh Volleyball Association (SVA) president Shah Naeem Zafar, who is also KPT Sports Manager, was also present on the occasion. Six matches will be held on Friday (today).
