Online sale reshaping sacrificial animals market

The growing use of online marketing is reshaping the market to the extent where buyers are now able to choose the sacrificial animal of their choice, place order on the internet website and receive it at the doorstep.

According to an online website bakraonline.pk the rate of goat weighing 22 kilogram is Rs25,000; 28 kilogram Rs34,000; and 40 kilogram Rs45,000. The rate of camel ranges from Rs125,000 to Rs175,000 and its single share would cost Rs24,000. The cow weighing almost 100 kilogram is available at Rs100,000 but the rate of pair is somewhat different from it.

A report said an online website Qurbanionline.com sold 100,000 animals in 2015, up from 75,000 in 2014 and 67,000 in 2013. Last year, the people could buy a goat via this online facility for $225 or about Rs22,500 and a cow for $710.

Sadia Irfan, a resident of Ghauri Town, said there is a general trend that people visit sacrificial animals markets with their children so that they could buy the animals of their choice but due to fear of Congo virus this year online buying would get momentum among them.

Tariq Chaudhry, a resident of Asghar Mall Scheme, said there are abundance of smart gadgets available in homes so the people would use them to make their life easier, adding "The trend of online buying of the sacrificial animals will grow and is a reminder of the fact of how fast Pakistan is moving towards a digital future."
