KARACHI: The Sindh High Court on Monday issued notices to advocate general Sindh and others on the petition of Amir Liqauat Hussain requesting the court to direct the police not to register any fresh cases against him without the permission of the court.
Amir Liaquat Hussain submitted in the petition that he was falsely implicated in the cases registered at the Super Highway, Steel Town and Quaidabad police stations after the Muttahida Qaumi Movement’s leader Altaf Hussain's anti-Pakistan speech on August 22.
The petitioner's counsel, Khawaja Naveed Ahmed, submitted that the petitioner was not present at the time of address of the MQM leader and he had also denounced the statement of the MQM leader and left the party.
He submitted the petitioner apprehend that he would be arrested in false FIRs and victimised. He requested the court to direct the police not to register any fresh case against the petitioner without the permission of the court and restrain the police from arresting him in such cases. He also sought an exemption from personal appearance at trial court during the pendency of the petition.
The court issued notices to the advocate general Sindh and others and called their comments directing the respondents to act strictly in accordance with the law.
