‘Mechanism devised to check illegal

transplantation of human organs’

BAHAWALPUR: The Health Department has devised an effective mechanism to check illegal transplantation of human organs in the division, said Health Services Director Dr Shahid Khaleeq.

Addressing a meeting here, he claimed that no case of illegal transplantation of human organs had so far been reported in the division. Speaking on the occasion, Commissioner Saqib Zafar urged the health officials to play their role more vigorously to fully implement the directions contained in the Punjab Human Organs Transplant Authority to protect the human lives. He said: “Zero tolerance policy regarding illegal transplantation of human organs should be maintained by sharpening vigil of all health facilities in the division.” Quaid-i-Azam Medical College Principal Dr Ijlal Haider Rizvi, Bahawal Victoria Hospital Medical Superintendent Dr Rao Javed Akhtar, Civil Hospital Medical Superintendent Dr Aziz, Dr Shafqat Tabassum, Dr Javed Iqbal, Dr Shamshad Kazmi and others attended the meeting.

Later, presiding over a meeting regarding the safe blood transfusion, Commissioner Saqib Zafar directed the health authorities to close all illegal blood banks to protect the human lives in the division. Blood Transfusion Centre regional manager Dr Shamshad Kazmi and Drug Controller Abid Zain said that the safe blood transfusion centres were functioning at the Bahawal Victoria Hospital, the Civil Hospital and the Ahmadpur East, Hasilpur and Yazman THQ hospitals.

 

Rains inundate villages

BAHAWALPUR: The ongoing torrential rains have inundated scores of villages and urban areas of Hasilpur and Chishtian.

The rains also damaged houses and crops spread on thousands of acres. Rainwater has still not been drained out from main bazaars of Hasilpur and Chishtian, affecting routine activities of life in the areas.
