Bilawal to hold Okara meeting as part of reviving PPP’s past glory
ISLAMABAD: As a part of efforts to revive the ‘past glory’ of Bhutto-formed Pakistan People’s Party (PPP), especially in Punjab, its young Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari would hold first public meeting in Okara soon after announcement of party office-bearers by mid-September at district, divisional and provincial level for all the federating units and Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) , the sources told The News here on Sunday.
“The party leadership would receive recommendations of the coordination committees till August 31 carrying three names each for president and general secretaries at district, divisional and provincial level in Punjab, Sindh, Balochistan, Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa and AJK. The office-bearers would be announced by mid-September after which PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari would initiate mass contact campaign from Okara,” the sources said adding the PPP leadership is yet to decide whether the mass contact campaign would be transformed into anti-government movement in the context of the PanamaLeaks because many senior party leaders have advised Bilawal Bhutto Zardari that it would be pre-mature to announce any time- frame for a protest movement against the incumbent government.
They said the PPP chairman would hold public meetings and workers conventions across the country in tandem with the hearings of references against Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif in the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) and the relevant courts, adding “the participants of the meetings held in last couple of weeks by the PPP mainly focused on the re-organisation drive to bring loyal, dedicated and ambitious workers at the top party positions at all levels.”
Talking to The News, PPP leader Faisal Karim Kundi said their party would definitely launch anti-government movement if independent investigation is not initiated to probe into the Panama Leaks. “The Coordination Committees will complete their work this month and office-bearers of the party will sbe announced next month in line with their recommendations.
PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari will first launch mass contact campaign to mobilise party workers at the grassroots level,” he said. To a question, he said they are reorganising their party across the country, so it would not be appropriate to say that they are mainly focusing on Punjab.
