LAHORE: Lahorites witnessed one of the wettest days of the summer season on Saturday as intermittent but at times heavy downpour inundated many parts of the city while disturbing vehicular traffic and the power supply.
Lahore Airport received the highest 120mm rainfall during last 24 hours while downpour recorded at City was 59mm, Gulberg 56mm, Johar Town, Misri Shah, Shahi Qilla 40mm and Allama Iqbal Town 28mm.
The citizens woke up in the morning to find out heavy rain in most parts of the city. It was the fourth consecutive of rain in the city. The rain brought some respite to people from muggy weather. However, they had to face rush on roads and chocked arteries in the city. Power outages due to rain-related incidents also occurred as the electricity supply to large parts of the city was suspended for hours. According to an official of Lahore Electric Supply Company (Lesco), 100 feeders tripped in the rain.
The Meteorological Department forecast more downpour in the next couple of days. According to Met Office, good monsoon rain/thunderstorm will continue till Monday. Talking about patterns of rain, a Met official said, yesterday’s monsoon low over south Rajasthan and adjoining areas now lies over south-west Rajasthan. A westerly wave also persists over upper parts of the country. Under the influence of the meteorological conditions rain-thundershowers with isolated heavy falls is expected at a number of places in Punjab, including Lahore, Islamabad, KP, Sindh and Kashmir, while at scattered places in FATA, Gilgit-Baltistan and Balochistan.
