SHC orders registration of FIR against illegal detentions of woman, two children

The Sindh High Court has directed a petitioner to register an FIR against the illegal detention of her daughter-in-law and her two children allegedly detained by personnel of law enforcement agencies.
Asifur Rehman submitted in his petition that police and personnel of other law enforcement agencies had raided his residence situated in Gulzar-e-Hijri area on February 16 and took away his son, Ali Rehman, daughter-in-law Jawairia and grandchildren Ayesha and Hamza.
He submitted that his son was later shown arrested in criminal cases; however, the whereabouts of his daughter- in-law and grandchildren were unknown.
He said that police were not disclosing the whereabouts of the detainees despite repeated applications and requested the court to direct the police to produce them before the court and provide details of cases if any against them.
The Sindh High Court directed the petitioner to register an FIR and adjourned the hearing for the next date of hearing.
The court also issued notices to provincial and federal law officers to file comments on petitions against alleged detention of citizens by law enforcement agencies.
The petitioners submitted that Zaheerul Hasan, Tauseef Zaheer, Syed Wasiullah, Rast Ali Pitafi, Mohammad Imtiaz Siddiqui, Mohammad Faisal, Noman Qayum and Mohammad Imran were picked up by personnel of law enforcement agencies from Lyari, Malir, Khairpur, Shah Faisal Colony, Saeedabad, North Nazimabad, North Karachi and Tariq Road areas and their whereabouts were unknown.
Morai bail plea
The Sindh High Court dismissed a petition seeking the quashment of a detention order of a former chairman of Fishermen Cooperative Society and PPP leader, Nisar Morai, as well as his release on bail, directing the petitioner to adopt legal remedy available under the law.
Dr Seema Naz, spouse of Morai, submitted in the petition that her spouse was unlawfully arrested from Islamabad and later after six days he was detained by the Rangers for 90 days under the anti-terrorism law on March 16.
She said that Morai was suffering from various ailments and he required proper medical assistance. She requested the court to set aside the detention order and release him on bail, besides compensation of Rs50 million be given for illegally detaining him.
A division bench headed by Justice Irfan Saadat Khan dismissed the petition and directed the petitioner to adopt legal remedy available under the law.
Rangers had detained Nisar Morai, stated to be a close aid of Sindh’s top politician of the ruling party of the province, for 90 days for questioning under the anti- terrorism law.
The Rangers had submitted before the administrative judge of anti-terrorism courts that the detainee was involved in facilitating target killers, extortion and other offences that came within the ambit of Anti-Terrorism Act.
