The Rawalpindi Cantonment Board (RCB) elected its new vice president Malik Munir during a special session convened here Friday.

The special session to elect new vice president was chaired by Station Commander, Brigadier Syed Hassan Raza which was attended by Chief Executive Officer, Dr. Saima Shah, Secretary, Qaiser Mahmood, all 10 members of their respective wards and other concerned officials of RCB. All the ten members backed Malik Munir as the new vice president of RCB. The Station Commander who is also president of the Cantonment Boards of Rawalpindi and Chaklala administered oath.

The local bodies elections of RCB were held last year after which the members had elected Raja Jahandad as the vice president of the Board. However, reportedly, the members on the grounds of not receiving funds for developmental and construction purposes in their wards tabled a no confidence move against Raja Jahandad in June this year. During no confidence session, over 9 members out of total 11 expressed their no confidence on Raja Jahandad in June.

After being elected new vice president of the Board, Malik Munir pledged to serve the citizens in honest, sincere way and with loyalty. I would strive to make efforts to achieve developmental funds to be distributed among all members to carry out works in the respective wards, said Malik Munir.

Later on talking to newsmen, the members including Hafiz Hussein Ahmed, Haji Zafar expressed concern over slow pace of works being carried over in their wards only because of non-availability of funds. The RCB has recently allocated Rs5 million funds to each member which they termed insufficient for doing all works in wards including developmental, construction, repair, drainage, sewerage, improvement of streets etc. The related governments should provide funds which should be worth Rs20 million to each member so that works could be carried over smoothly and without any hindrance.

Moreover, these members also expressed concerns over decisions not enforced which are adopted in Board meetings.
