ISLAMABAD: The designated Chief Justice (CJ), Anwar Zaheer Jamali, on Wednesday lauded the services of Justice Jawwad S Khawaja and said that the judiciary will miss him. Addressing the Full Court Reference on the eve of the retirement of Chief Justice Jawwad S Khawaja, the designated Chief Justice, Anwar Zaheer Jamali, said that Supreme Court has a big responsibility to provide justice to the masses with the strength of only 17 judges. He said that all the judges of the SC have sufficient knowledge and experience of the judiciary. He said all judges without any hesitation give their opinion even in their dissenting notes. He said that through this, the judicial process continues. He said that now the judiciary was going through very severe challenges as a lot of cases were pending for years, making petitioners suffer. He said in the past, the judiciary took some steps in this regard and asserted that with the help of bars, these problems will be solved soon. Justice Jamali said that in every profession one has to be retired on the completion of his services and at that time, the most important thing is that what kind of memories he left behind on the eve of his retirement. He said that Justice Jawwad S Khawaja had left behind very good and important memories, which will be remembered for a long time. He opined that he will be remembered as a very good justice who did his best to provide justice to the masses. Justice Jamali will succeed the outgoing CJ and will hold the coveted slot for 15 months till December 31st, 2016. He will take oath of his office today (Thursday). Jamali was among the judges who refused to take a fresh oath under the Provisional Constitution Order in 2007. He was reappointed as Chief Justice High Court of Sindh on 27th August 2008 and elevated as Judge of the Supreme Court in August 2009.
