SHC seeks answers from federal, provincial law officers
NED teacher, student among several ‘missing’ men picked up by LEAs, court told
Karachi
The Sindh High Court on Friday issued notices to the federal and provincial law officers and others on a petition against illegal detention by law enforcers of citizens, including a teacher and a student of the NED University.
The petitioners Mohammad Azeem Ansari, Sanam Jan, Fehmida, Shahid Shah and Syed Moazzam submitted that LEAs personnel picked up Hizbullah Ansari, Attaullah, Abdul Aleem, Rehman Shah and Syed Munib from Buffer Zone, Landhi, New Karachi, Shah Latif Town and Gulistan-e-Jauhar areas, respectively, and the whereabouts of all the men are still unknown.
As per the petitioners, Hizbullah Ansari is an engineer by profession who was teaching at NED University, while Munib was a mechanical engineering student at the university.
Petitioner Shahid Shah submitted that police and law enforcement personnel had picked up Rehman Shah and his relatives Jameel, Sajjad and Naved, but later released all except Rehman.
The concerned relatives told the court that police and other law enforcement agencies were not disclosing any information regarding the missing persons and none of them had been produced before any court of law.
Expressing fears for their lives, the petitioners requested the court to order LEAs to bring them to court and to direct all respondents to provide details of cases, if any, against the detainees at the earliest.
