Commissioner rules out Congo fever threat

GUJRANWALA: Commissioner Muhammad Asif Thursday said anti-Congo fever steps were underway by the divisional and district administrations throughout the division.

Addressing a meeting to review the anti-Congo steps at his office, the commissioner said there was no threat of Congo fever in the division.

Assistant Commissioner Rana Manzoor Hussain, Director livestock Dr Ghulam Muhammad Gill and other officers were present. All DCOs of the division attended the meeting by the video link.

The meeting was told that vaccination of 26,800 animals and spray at 6,500 cattle farms was conducted by the livestock teams and anti-Congo campaign to create awareness in the people about the disease was also underway.

The commissioner directed all DCOs to monitor steps against the Congo virus in their respective districts.

ROBBER HELD: Police Thursday arrested a robber while his two accomplices escaped after snatching valuables from a man in the Khiali area of Gujranwala.

Reportedly, three bandits snatched cash and a motorcycle from a citizen and fled away. Khiali police intercepted the robbers on Nowshera Sansi Road but the dacoits opened fire at the police party and again succeeded to escape.

Baghbanpura police was informed about the robbers and the police established a check point on Hafizabad road and arrested a dacoit identified as Allah Rakha and recovered two pump-action shotguns and a pistol from his possession while his accomplices escaped.
