Embarrassing games
The Rio Olympics 2016 was a major international multi-sport event. More than 11,000 athletes from 207 nations took part. At the end of the 2016 Olympics, the US topped the medals table, winning the most golds (46) and most medals overall (121). Great Britain and China finished in second and third respectively. Host country Brazil won seven gold medals, their most at any single Summer Olympics.
Pakistan also participated in the Olympics. A total of seven athletes represented Pakistan at the Olympics, the country’s smallest ever contingent at the Games. All seven athletes gained entry to the Olympics through either wildcard invitations or quota spots, while three of them (swimmers Lianna Swan and Haris Bandey as well as judoka Shah Hussain Shah) were based abroad. I think the government is responsible for this embarrassing situation at the Olympics.
