KARACHI: Sindh qualified for the finals in both junior boys and cadet boys team events of the PSO Carient 23rd Junior and Cadet National Table Tennis Championships here at the Islamia Club on Sunday.
Punjab won cadet girls team singles title by beating Chromatex 3-2 in the game for the first and second position. Sindh defeated Khyber Pakhtunkhwa 3-1 in the first and second place fixture to win junior girls team singles crown.
Sindh, who beat Islamabad in the junior boys team event semi-final fixtures 3-0, will face in the final Army, who overpowered Punjab 3-0.
Sindh, who snatched a 3-2 win against Khyber Pakhtunkhwa in the cadet boys team semi-final, will lock horns in the final with National Highway Authority (NHA) who defeated Chromatex 3-0 in the semi-final.
In the boys team event pre-final Sindh’s Mehdi Reza, Hamza Godil and Anas Obaid did a fine to win the pre-final against the federal capital.
In the other semi-final, Army’s players did not give much room to Punjab. Army’s players included gutsy Faizan Zahoor, who won gold in the recently held South Asian Junior and Cadet Championships.
In the cadet boys team event semi-final Sindh faced tough resistance from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa before emerging victorious in the end. It was 12-year-old Ummam Khwaja who put the hosts Sindh under terrific pressure by winning two matches out of three he played in the best-of-five fixture, the most gripping of the event so far.
Kainat (KP), Fatima Khan (Chromatex), Iqra (KP) and Hareem Anwar (Sindh) reached the semi-finals of the junior girls singles.
Fatima Khan, Amal (Punjab), Maria Tazeem (Sindh) and Perniya Khan (Chromatex) qualified for the semi-finals of the cadet girls singles competitions.
