DERA ISMAIL KHAN: Opposition Leader in the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Assembly Maulana Lutfur Rehman on Saturday lauded the role of the Dispute Resolution Councils (DRCs) in the province.

Addressing a ceremony organised at the DRC office in Dera Ismail Khan, the Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam-Fazl (JUI-F) leader said that his party would support the legislation regarding DRCs in the assembly.

He also stressed the need for immediate resolution of petty issues in the society. He was the chief guest at the ceremony.

Among others the meeting was also attended by Regional Police Officer Dera Ismail Khan Sher Akbar, District Police Officer Yasir Afridi and Secretary DRC (retd) judge Ihsanullah Khan Babar.

The JUI-F leader said that justice could only be provided to the people after implementing Islamic laws in the country.

He added that the role of DRC could not be ignored in shaping the society. He maintained that the officials of DRC needed to be commended for their services they rendered for the welfare of the common people.

Speaking on the occasion, RPO Sher Akbar said that DRC is not so much different than the traditional jirga system where the problems of the conflicting parties were resolved with mutual consensus.

Secretary DRC Ihsanullah said that the basic aim behind the DRCs was to help the people settle their disputes at their doorsteps.

He added that DRC in Dera Ismail Khan had resolved more than 650 cases so far.

The dispute resolution council (DRC) is an alternate dispute resolution system initiated by the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa police in 2014 to help settle petty disputes through a free and speedy procedure.
