Azeem, Soban win in Badminton Tourney

KARACHI: Azeem Sarwar defeated Tahir Khan 21/10, 21/15 to cruise into the second round of All-Pakistan National Ranking Badminton Tournament, which commenced on Tuesday at Gymnasium Hall in Lahore.

Soban Jamil overpowered Masood Khan 21/9, 21/15.  Harrison Brint and Hayatullah received walkover in the first round.

Men’s Singles First Round: Azeem Sarwar (Wapda) beat Tahir Khan (Police) 21/10, 21/15; Soban Jamil (Punjab) beat Masood Khan (Police) 21/9, 21/15; Harrison Brint (NBP) w/o Nabeel Akhtar (Railway); Wadood Islam (Wapda) beat Agha Saud (HEC) 21/12, 21/10; Ijaz Ahmed (NBP) beat Ali Nawab Dil (Wapda) 21/19, 21/17; Hayatullah (Police) w/o Raja Hasnain (HEC). Hashir Bashir (Wapda) beat Sherazi (Wapda) 22/24, 21/13, 21/11; Anjum Bashir (SNGPL) beat Nadeem Khan (KP) 21/13, 21/4.

Women’s Singles First Round: Aqsa Zikria (HEC) beat Rubab (Wapda) 21/11, 21/12; Palwasha Bashir (NBP) beat Anila Arshar (Wapda) 21/11, 21/7; Ghazala Saddique (SNGPL) beat Maryyam Imran (Islamabad) 21/8, 21/7; Huma Javaid (Wapda) beat Saira Razzaq (Wapda) 22/20, 21/14; Saba Mughal (Wapda) w/o Aqsa Hassan (KP); Sehra Akram (Wapda) beat Anmool Rasheed (Punjab) 21/4, 21/3.
